Experience of Chinese acupuncture at the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca as a luxury wellness moment. Who would have thought that after just a few weeks I would already be back in contact with acupuncture, and on top of that, on the favorite island of German vacationers. While the first thing you think of when you think of a spa area like the Arabella Spa is cozy and gentle treatments, pure relaxation and recreation, with such a beautiful backdrop, I once again got to know the other side. Needles!
Compared to my first acupuncture treatment at the Steirerhof in Austria with outside temperatures all day around 5°C, the relaxation was already much greater due to the temperatures (about 30°C) on this day. Spent the day first at the pool area of the hotel with enough space, then a nice light lunch in the open-air restaurant and then my treatment with Dr. Lu in the spa area.

My “weak points” are of course not surprising and there the regular fitness units in the different hotels are not so much use. The shoulder and back area is regularly tense, due to sitting still on long stretches, writing blogposts in not exactly advantageous positions (e.g. in bed in the evening 🙂 … )

Dr. Lu suggested to me to first put some acupuncture needles and also to warm these parts with red light accordingly. My fear of acupuncture needles has lessened somewhat, but needles and I, will certainly not become friends in the next few years. I can reassure you though, it absolutely doesn’t hurt and you can even perfectly switch off for a few minutes afterwards under the red light. The quiet music in the background, the eyes closed (and just do not think about the needles… )
This is followed by an appropriate massage of the regions and an intensive treatment of the head and neck muscles, as well as a short follow-up talk. I can confirm to you again this time that it was in no way unpleasant and also the feeling of the needles was quickly forgotten. I felt much better after the treatment.
In addition to the treatment of problem areas (such as shoulder, neck), there is also another interesting acupuncture treatment at the St. Regis Mardavall Hotel. Here, the needles are not placed in the back or neck area, but in the face and serves to bio-lift the face and activates the facial muscles. Perhaps I will try this treatment in the future and have acupuncture needles placed in my face.

If you’re looking for more TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) treatments, the Arabella Spa also offers Tai Qi & Qi Gong and Tuina, as well as auriculotherapy (which supports smoking cessation, for example).
Of course, the St. Regis Mardavall Hotel offers not only Chinese medicine, but many other massages and cosmetic pampering programs with products from Anne Semonin Paris and Ligne St. Barth. It is really not difficult to relax in the premises and let yourself be pampered by the extremely friendly and caring staff.

For me it was again a nice and interesting experience and so slowly I can make friends with acupuncture and needles. I had already considered whether I would have to come back to Dr. Lu and his team at the end of my stay in Mallorca, when I have had a good time on the golf courses (and the sore muscles are probably also making themselves known). But I’ll tell you more about that in the next few days… 🙂
