Experience as a Starwood Lifetime Platinum guest at the W Barcelona Hotel in Spain. Hardly any hotel has been talked about so much among frequent travelers and friends in recent years as the W Barcelona Hotel and when I would spend my first stay there. The silhouette of the hotel is very well known and already visible from the air when landing in Barcelona.

Facts about the W Barcelona Hotel

I spent three days in total at the W Barcelona Hotel, so I had the opportunity to review the different areas of the hotel. If you want to book the hotel with a classic room (“Wonderful Room”), the regular rate is about 240 EUR (without breakfast).

Arrival & Checkin – W Barcelona Hotel

The drive from the airport to the hotel takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs about 25 EUR. Directly at the hotel you are met by the friendly doorman who takes care of your luggage and brings you to the reception. After a short and effective check-in and presentations of the various options in the hotel, I was led directly to my room, where the luggage was already waiting for me! Very effective!

Friendly information during the way to the elevator, the ride to the floor and also to the room, as well as the direct indication if something is needed or is not as I imagine, please a quick call and they take care of the problem immediately. Rate (5/5)

Rooms & Suites – W Barcelona Hotel

I got a beautiful cool corner suite on the middle floors with a view of the beach and Barcelona on one side and the Mediterranean Sea and sunrise in the morning. The layout of the suite was very modern (the typical W style) with a nice living area and various seating areas also right by the large window, plus a separate TV and deep table for a meal.

The bedroom with the typical W bed (highly recommended!) had a large desk, the familiar mood lighting, and a large bathtub with a direct view of the ocean, plus more seating by the window.

Special feature in this house was the “open” bathroom with the toilet and shower each behind large glass doors, with all the necessary utensils. I must especially emphasize the nice “chocolate strawberries” as amenities for me, as well as an extra coffee machine provided (I’m just a coffee-holic 🙂 Rate (5/5)

Clubfloor & Lounge – W Barcelona Hotel

The W Barcelona Hotel, like most other W Hotels worldwide, does not have a club lounge, but offers a large “living room” with various seating areas, free internet, as well as the possibility to access drinks and small snacks at the bar next door.

Location on the Mediterranean Sea and beach – sails on the beach

The location of W Barcelona Hotel at the end of the harbor with direct access to the beach and unobstructed views of the sea and the city or the sunrise from every corner of the hotel are special.

First bars and restaurants are within short walking distance from the hotel, also small supermarkets, bike rental, etc. – To the beginning of Las Ramblas it is about 20 minutes by foot, by cab it takes about 5-7 minutes and costs about 7 EUR.

Of course, it is not comparable with a city hotel directly at Las Ramblas, but for that here is the own beach, a fantastic pool and an insane view, which compensates for all expenses at any time. (Rate 5/5)

Swimming Pool & Fitness – W Barcelona Hotel

The swimming pool, with seating and lounging options on two floors, is of course a perfect place to relax, socialize, or even meet up with friends or business associates.

While the upper floor is equipped with large beds and loungers, you will also find many seating areas in the lower area with a direct view of the sea. The pool has a good and sufficient size and a direct access to the beach offers a possibility to all who want to be even more directly at the sea.

Of note here is the pool bar located at the edge of the pool with a very attentive, but not intrusive, staff who exemplify the modern team style of the W Barcelona Hotel particularly well. Prices, even for food and drinks, are very fair compared to other hotels in the category.

As with almost all W Hotels, the W Barcelona Hotel also has a modern approx. 300sqm fitness center with all modern equipment and of course you also have here, a beautiful view of the sea and the city of Barcelona. I could not motivate myself to fitness during the days, but at least it looked very good 🙂 (Rate 5/5)

Restaurants at the W Barcelona Hotel

The hotel offers three different restaurants (WAVE (separate review), BRAVO24, SALT), as well as the wet bar by the pool or the W Bar and the Eclipse Bar & Night Club) and I can say I tried quite a few 🙂

WAVE

WAVE restaurant offers both breakfast, lunch and dinner from 07.00 to 01.00 at night, emphasizing a healthy mix of Mediterranean cuisine with different influences and always an aspect on health. The breakfast and the egg dishes offered separately are very good, the selection is rich and the staff is very attentive. I liked the dinner very much, also the called prices were extremely fair – just considering freshness and presentation, as well as service in the restaurant (Rate 5/5)

BRAVO24

BRAVO24 is open for both breakfast, lunch and dinner on the second floor of the hotel and is independently run by Catalan and Michel star Carles Abellán. I tested the restaurant for breakfast on the second day and found the presentation of the various dishes and other choices very interesting and successful. Minus point is here in the restaurant clearly the staff, which offered a very bored impression and orders of the guests only reluctantly accepted and the speed of delivery already bordered on refusal to work. For the visual impression top – service flop! (Rate 3/5)

SALT

The “beach bar” with seating in the sand in the summer offers the typical charm of a vacation resort, sitting relaxed while enjoying tapas and an attentive staff. I tried the various margaritas and the special cheesecake here once in the afternoon, and would love to return here for a nice lunch on the beach as well. (Rate 5/5)

W Bar

Perfect place in the afternoon or evening to get a little work done, use the free internet, or sit with friends. Normal price range, comfortable seats, and good options for just getting into the day. Depending on the weather already during the day sometimes hard to find a place to sit! (Rate 4/5)

Eclipse Bar

One of the hottest night clubs in Barcelona with a great view from the 26th floor over the city, the sea and the sunset – wow. I was there on a Tuesday for Beauty Night and loved the concept. (Rate 5/5)

Inroom Dining

Always a nice experiment when you want to indulge in the most comfortable way and know the known risks, time, presentation and temperature of the food. The W Barcelona passed this review with flying colors and left a very positive impression both from the service mentality, richness, temperature of the food to the price – Recommended (Rate 5/5)

Service and staff at W Barcelona Hotel

The W Barcelona Hotel was informed several times by SPG about my arrival and also by email and about my SPG status (Starwood Lifetime Platinum) and was very well prepared and responded accordingly.

Despite my early arrival (already around 13:45), the room was prepared and directly at check-in was actively asked if I wanted a later time for check-out and when my departure from the airport-Barcelona would be. On the day of check-out, the bill was prepared accordingly and the processing was efficient. For the slight delay due to guests already checking in and 2-3 minutes waiting time was actively apologized several times. Very good! (Rate 5/5)

Personal impression

The hotel approached me in advance via social media channels after I told my friends about the trip to Barcelona. Even before arrival, they actively inquired whether I would need help, had wishes and on the day of arrival once again wished a good flight, or on the day of departure thanked me once again.

An absolutely right step in the right, modern direction – which gives the guest, regardless of status, the feeling of being welcome and expected, or to be there for the guest at any time. These are points that the guest will always remember fondly and leave a nice ending to a stay (rate 5/5)

W-Insider Concierge Service

How to describe the W-Insider, a mixture of concierge, the good soul in the house, a person who knows the city perfectly and always has an open ear for his guests and helps to plan the activities.

No matter if restaurant or sightseeing, dinner in the hotel or a good club, sports event or the specials in the hotel or on-site. The “W-Insider” is in many hotels, the good soul and the direct contact to the city.

If you want to see something apart from the recommendations from the travel guides, you should include the W-Insider in your planning. The W-Insiders I had the pleasure to meet in Barcelona, Claudia and Xavier, were extremely helpful and friendly and made a very positive impact on my stay at the W Barcelona Hotel with their service and demeanor. Often called a top hotel in Europe, awarded several times and met my expectations to my fullest satisfaction. In my worldwide hotel list, the W Barcelona Hotel is sure of a place among the top 10 hotels and that with over 1000 hotel nights in the last 10 years should be expression enough.
