When I visit a hotel that has only 22 rooms, is not located directly in a big city but in a large park, when a large heavy iron gate closes the entrance to the driveway and one has the feeling that time has stood still in this place – then it must be a special place with a special history.
The family name is known everywhere, the gastronomy is popular far beyond the city limits, and yet within a 20-minute drive you can reach almost any destination in the world. A break from the big city – the skyline on the horizon, these are the first impressions of Villa Rothschild in the healing climate zone in the Taunus.
Arrival & Lobby – Villa Rothschild Frankfurt
Hardly any other place embodies historical background, modern excursion destination and perfect event and wedding location in a romantic park like Villa Rothschild Frankfurt. Old big trees – the driveway curved to the main house – moods and impressions that have an immediate effect on the guest, you have the feeling time has stopped and you get incredible interest to experience this special place and the people.
After my experience in Rhineland-Palatinate last year in a great hotel with 15 rooms, the Villa Rothschild is the next and second smallest hotel that I may present on my blog. The hotel belongs to the Kempinski Hotel Group since 2007 and is also there the smallest hotel in the chain, very individual and very personal. Already upon arrival, one has only the desire to experience it, to explore.
Already the walk through the entrance hall, the few steps up to the reception gives an idea of the history that has already taken place here. Historical pictures, contemporary history and a special place of the Federal Republic of Germany. What is known today as “Villa Rothschild” and “Hotel” was very important for the reconstruction of West Germany after the end of the Second World War. In 1949, the “Villa Rothschild” was still the “House of the States” and the meeting place of politicians Theodor Heuss, Ludwig Erhard and Ernst Reuter, as well as diplomats and politicians from the Western world. In this place, the future of post-war Germany was determined and it was made into the country it is today.
Memories of the politicians who walked up the same stairs as I did on those days, who met here in the conference rooms and stayed in the rooms and suites that were also reserved for my stay, are everywhere. Each walk through the special place automatically takes a few minutes longer, you inevitably just stop at the various images and memories – you want to experience history “in person”.
History of the luxury hotel
But the history of this particular building and the name of the house look into an even bigger story, more personalities and a family whose name is associated with money and influence. Villa Rothschild was built between 1888 and 1894 for banker Wilhelm Carl von Rotschild and his wife Hannah Matilde. The opening of the villa was attended, among others, by the Prince of Wales, as well as Empress Victoria, wife of the German Emperor Frederick III.
The history of the Rothschild family goes back to the 15th century, and even in the present day is associated with banking and finance, real estate, hotels and wineries. Many gourmets are, of course, familiar with the names of the Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Lafite-Rothschild wineries. In this place you can feel the history and you also start to absorb this place as a hotel guest.

My suite in the Villa Rothschild Frankfurt for the days in Königstein im Taunus was just such a special place – the bedroom of the former Baroness von Rothschild with a fantastic view. Not without reason, this room is often chosen as the bridal room before the wedding. The romantic fireplace, the bay window, the high ceilings – in the middle comfortable seating for the guests and best friends. The last hours before the wedding, the appointment for makeup and hair, put on the dress and step down the steps in the venerable villa, into the garden with a view over Frankfurt and enjoy unforgettable hours …
Each room and suite is completely different due to the historic building, and yet the Kempinski Hotel Group has managed to discreetly integrate modern hotel life into the grand history of the house. 2 Michelin star restaurant & bar
The possibilities for a special dinner, a taste experience and unforgettable evening I have already presented to you, with the 2-star Michelin restaurant “Villa Rothschild” under the direction of Christian Eckhardt and Benjamin Birk. The restaurant is completely rightly called the best gourmet restaurant in the Hessian region. I absolutely loved the combinations of dishes, the fresh ingredients and small surprises, as well as non-alcoholic cocktails, as you have probably already read in the report.
But also next to the gourmet restaurant “Villa Rothschild” there is with Tizian’s Bar & Brasserie a place to go for a snack at noon, special dishes for the evening or as I did, for a piece of fresh cake – like the “Frankfurter Kranz” in the afternoon – either in the bar, the panoramic lounge or the wonderful terrace in the summer months.
You just sit there – enjoy the atmosphere of the house, the view over the Main and the large park and have the feeling that time has stood still. As a visitor or hotel guest, you forget everything around you and want to hold on to time, think of beautiful moments – it seems like a little paradise outside of Frankfurt.
Getting married in Frankfurt
When you visit Villa Rothschild Frankfurt as a wedding guest, you have the desire to get married here yourself – to stand on the terrace and have the reception in one of the historic rooms. As a wedding couple, this place will always be remembered – a special moment and yet very individual. In the US, you would call it magical – but dreamlike probably describes it better…. This is the place you always want to come back to.
If I now gave you the idea that Villa Rothschild would also be ideal for your wedding, I can of course already anticipate the first objection. Anyone who has been to a regular wedding will quickly realize that 22 rooms and suites would not be enough for many wedding parties and yet the “Villa Rothschild” is one of the most popular wedding venues in the Hessian region.
Neighborhood & Spa
The great advantage of this historic building is the direct neighborhood to the sister hotel “Falkenstein Grand”, which can provide more rooms and suites for the guests. Thus, as a bride and groom with the closest family and the witnesses choose the Villa Rothschild, the other guests can use the services at the Falkenstein Grand. The travel time, less than 2 minutes.

There are few places and hotels that offer so many possibilities outside a big city and also the perfect gift for various occasions – from a gourmet dinner in the “Villa Rothschild” to a gourmet cooking course with 2-star chef Christian Eckhardt, from a jazz picnic in the park or the Falkenstein Grand Picnic on a beautiful summer Sunday. A barbecue on the terrace with a view of the Frankfurt skyline or a Sunday brunch. The possibilities are endless and yet there is one event for epicures that has become an absolute gourmet tradition….
The “Gourmet-8-Event” – the already 9th Gourmet Summit – a gourmet event for gourmets. Christian Eckhardt invites top chefs (such as Sven Elverfeld, Jan Hartwig, Cedric Schwitzer) again at the end of June, for a special evening and culinary highlight.
Various live cooking stations, live music, selected drinks and a fantastic fireworks display – it is not without reason that the Gourmet 8 event is becoming more popular every year.

The Villa Rothschild Frankfurt must be experienced – it is a combination of luxury hotel, breathtaking scenery in the park not far from the Main metropolis and a time travel into the history and past of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The first impression when you drive through the heavy iron gate into the park of the villa is confirmed, you forget everything around you and just want to enjoy your time. Exceptional service, special rooms and suites and a breathtaking view of Frankfurt.
Just the combination of only 22 rooms and suites, the special building and the service of an old grand hotel guarantee unforgettable hours and the perfect event location – whether for a special meeting or even a wedding.
