The Luxury Travel Blog of Germany takes you to Sweden this time and presents you the Stockholm Sights Top 10. Sweden has many highlights and sights to offer, but Stockholm alone offers a great start to get to know Sweden, the country and its people with a great city trip, just like I did. In the following, I would like to introduce you to my top 10 sights in Stockholm.

After my first impressions of Stockholm and my arrival at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel, the following days of my tour were to be used to explore the Swedish capital a little more closely and to determine the top 10 sights.

With the VisitStockholm Card, the entrance fees and most public transport are already included and you can decide which activities you want to do in the nice weather and which museums were planned for the dull and rainy weather. Of course, you can find a lot of information in good travel guides, such as Vis-a-Vis-Stockholm and Reise-Know-How-Stockholm, but you can of course also follow my personal travel tips.

Stockholm top 10 sights

I would therefore now like to briefly go into the various points for you and tell you what I personally found particularly fascinating about this place or why this point is on my personal Stockholm top 10 sights list.

Vasa Museum – Sailing tip

The “Vasa” is a ship from the 17th century, which consists of 95% original parts from that time and still has many decorations. When you first look at the museum from the outside, you don’t expect the incredible size of the 17th century ship.

What’s more, you can find out all about the repairs, the raising of the ship around 1960 and the extensive restoration work. An absolute must-see for every visitor to Stockholm (admission already included in the Stockholm Card!)

Royal Palace – Royal House

One of the largest castles in Europe and absolutely worth a visit with various museums attached. You can find everything from the fire in the palace and the reconstruction to the various members of the royal family, the treasury and information about the 600 rooms. Also ideal when the weather is not so nice in Stockholm! (Admission already included in the Stockholm Card!)

Drottningholm Palace – excursion tip

The castle is the first sight in Sweden to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is about 30 minutes by ferry or bus (bus included in the Stockholm Card!) from the center of Stockholm. The castle is still inhabited by the royal family and also offers an opportunity to wander through history.

A special exhibition is currently on display at Drottningholm Palace – 40 years of King Carl Gustav of Sweden, with insights that weren’t immediately reported by the press! Very worth seeing – if the weather is nice, it’s definitely worth taking the ferry! (Admission already included in the Stockholm Card!)

Sky View – Ericsson Globe view

Like every city, Stockholm also offers a great viewing platform – but in a special form. A round sphere glides along the Stockholm Skydome and is slowly pulled up to the dome of the hall. A fantastic view – 130 meters above the ground – over Stockholm and nature is offered at the top.

The ride alone, the special features of the viewing platform and the view are a must-see. It can often be combined with a concert or sports event – we recommend taking a look at the pages of the Ericsson Dome beforehand. (Admission already included in the Stockholm Card!)

Experience Stockholm from the water

A must-see and actually unavoidable for every visitor to Stockholm. Often the shortest connection between two sights is simply by boat, offering ever-changing views of the various islands of the Swedish capital, occasionally passing the large cruise ships that visit the capital in summer. (Discounts with the Stockholm Card!)

Stockholm by night

Breathtakingly clear nights, the water always in a photo, plus the various restaurants and the friendly Swedes, a must-see. What’s more, Stockholm is relatively small in terms of the city center, so you can take a short walk back to your hotel after your visit. Be sure to take a camera with you for the night!

Skansen – Swedish Houses Park

Also an absolute must-see in Sweden and easy to combine with the Vasa Museum, as both sights are only a 10-minute walk from each other. First visit the “Vasa” and then stop by the oldest open-air museum and animal park in the world in the late afternoon.

Over 150 historical buildings from Sweden have been rebuilt here and, in addition to a wonderful historical insight, also offer the opportunity to view Stockholm and the surrounding islands from above. As Skansen is located on a hill (escalators available), the setting sun makes for a fantastic photo location! (Admission already included in the Stockholm Card!)

Gamla Stan – photo backdrop

The historic streets of Stockholm and the founding area of Stockholm. Narrow alleyways, some of which are only 90 cm wide, historic houses and museums, churches and restaurants. Just start the tour in the late afternoon and stroll through the alleys, look for a restaurant for dinner and enjoy fresh seafood. (No entrance fee required!)

City Hall – Stadshuset

Always easily recognizable and located on the waterfront. The historic brick building, designed by Ragnar Östberg, was opened in 1923 and is easily recognizable with its 106-metre-high tower. In addition to Nobel Prize award ceremonies, weddings are often held here, as are meetings of the city parliament (admission included with the Stockholm Card!).

Tip: First visit the City Hall and then take the ferry boat to Drottningholm (departure directly in front of the City Hall)

Djurgarden

In addition to the famous museums (Vasa, Skansen, Abba Museum), the island with its almost 800 inhabitants offers above all a lot of nature. The green lung of Stockholm offers over 10 km of beach and is richly wooded. If you simply want to take a break, go sailing or explore the cycle paths, you will find everything you need in Djurgarden. An absolute recommendation.

Conclusion – Stockholm sights top 10

These are of course only the first 10 sights that Stockholm has to offer and I am sure that I will visit Stockholm again at the next opportunity – a wonderful city, very friendly people and a constantly functioning cell phone and data network. Regardless of whether I’m in the forests of the Swedish capital or in the middle of the city center. But now I’m also curious about Oslo
