Can a spa area, like the Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan in a luxury hotel still surprise me? The spa & wellness area of the 5-star Four Seasons Hotel Milan in Via Gesù should teach me better and show how to combine historical design and modern technology – without reducing or even disturbing the relaxation.
The spa and wellness area of the Four Seasons Hotel Milan was designed and completely restyled by none other than Spanish-born architect Patricia Urquiola, who now lives in Milan.
Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan
The challenge with this property at the Four Seasons Hotel Milan was not only to create something special, but to create a connection between the different buildings that are part of the hotel and to equalize the “maze” of paths and guide the guest to relax. I can already say it has succeeded.
The whole spa area is connected by 3 axes, the first one leads the guest from the entrance, past the reception to the stunning swimming pool, the second axis from the reception to the spa suite and the third and last axis that runs parallel offset to the second axis and leads the guest to the back rest areas and application areas.
Wellness and Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan
The entrance area of the Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan is already striking, long, guiding paths, a spa reception that does not stand in front of the head, as is so often the case, but fits laterally into the picture of warm colors of wood tones. A friendly welcome, a direct offer to sit down in the VIP waiting area and a small but helpful questionnaire with the previous spa experience and any illnesses.
In order to enjoy the time until the massage, I came a few minutes early and also had a look at the swimming pool area of the Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan and rarely have I seen such a perfect combination between relaxation and functionality. The historic walls and ceilings dating back to the 15th century, pleasant lounging areas and a swimming pool with 32°C water located along the entire length and yet somewhat sheltered. Perfect especially for me, who doesn’t like to go into a swimming pool below 30°C.
The changing areas exude an elegant comfort without being obtrusive, enough space, separate saunas for men and women, good also the possibility to style yourself again directly after the treatment and make up accordingly. Here was thought accordingly!
Luxury Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan
The Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan offers, in addition to massages, various facial and body treatments, as well as the possibility for manicures and hair styling.
To test the area a little more closely, I opted for the one combination of two treatments. First, a “salt body scrub” where the salts are applied to the skin and diffused with oil. It’s supposed to help the skin regenerate, put stress aside, and then moisturize. It was successful and very pleasant – both from the type of treatment, as well as from the staff member who took care of me during the time.
The second treatment was then a “Rebalancing Body Massage” where gentle movements help the body to balance and provide deep relaxation. I can only say this much – it worked and I felt very well taken care of during the time and enjoyed it very much.
But it’s also not hard to relax in the seven treatment rooms (including a spa suite – with its own jacuzzi, steam sauna, relaxation loungers, etc. 🙂 ), which are decorated with soft colors that are based on skin tones. Patricia Urquiola has managed to minimize the distance between a “sterile” spa area, through an elegant play of colors, discreet accessories and a swimming area that connects the rest area and active area with historic arches.
A spa and wellness area that is unparalleled in terms of design and a highlight for a guest in Milan. For me it was the first visit today and it will certainly not be the last visit to the Spa Four Seasons Hotel Milan.
