Countless times I have already walked past the windows of the Relish Berlin restaurant in Friedrichstraße, looked at the tables and also the Separée – but I had never eaten there, although it is located directly in my hotel. In the afternoon a coffee with cake in the atrium, in the evening a cocktail at the hotel bar, even some games of the World Cup 2014 I have seen at the public viewing, but time for dinner at Relish in the Westin Grand Hotel Berlin was not yet available.

Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, there was a starred restaurant at this location for a few years under the management of Rolf Schmidt with a very special team and selected dishes. Today, the Relish Restaurant is located there and yet I personally haven’t really noticed or used it.
Many guests walking along Friedrichstraße sit down in the summer in the countless garden furniture on the terrace in front of the hotel, a piece of the Berlin Wall in front of the Westin hotel and Relish Berlin Restaurant still reminds of the history of the city and gives the place that special flair. The interior of the restaurant rather discreet, high-quality woods, beautifully coordinated furniture and decorations.
As a guest the possibility to take a seat in the screened restaurant area or in the somewhat protected Separée, through the large windows in the Relish Berlin to observe the strollers and the traffic in the evening hours on Friedrichstraße and just start to dream. The menu is international with “Berlin classics” and a touch of French and Asian elements.

The Black Forest cherry tart was chosen to complement the lukewarm chocolate cake, which I already know very well and have eaten quite a few afternoons overlooking the 32-meter-high windows of the atrium in front of the grand staircase.
The challenge for many restaurants with a filet in “medium-rare” was very well observed here and it was perfectly seared and served at the minute. Add to that, however, a point I would not have expected from the Relish Berlin restaurant in the lobby area of a large hotel in Berlin.
It is said so well that “eye eats with” and when you see the first plates, you feel like discovering and enjoying the creation from the kitchen. You forget the location of the hotel and it could be just as much an upscale restaurant in a lonely bay in southern Europe as a special place in New York. All that matters at that moment is the creation of the cuisine.
The flavors perfectly matched and even the desserts a culinary delight – the famous “Black Forest Cake” once interpreted differently and broken down into ingredients. Also a nice idea and especially tasteful an experience.

In addition to the special dishes and very good ingredients, the Relish Berlin restaurant convinces above all with the staff. If you expect the Berlin style here as well, you will be positively surprised. I have rarely experienced in recent months a restaurant employee who was so eager and courteous to all guests. Every wish was realized and that with a natural, absolutely exemplary friendliness.
One enjoyed as a guest not only the food, but the special service made the evening in the Relish Restaurant in Berlin an experience. It is really fun and one of the reasons why you will certainly visit the restaurant again in the future.
