A beautiful evening at the opera, a beautiful dress, a great dinner before, so I have already experienced it a few years ago in London with the 25th Anniversary of Phantom of the Opera in Carnegie Hall and so it was also in the last few days in Frankfurt. Having an event in the “Alte Oper” at the Opernplatz and before that being able to enjoy a nice three course dinner in the new restaurant “SCHOENEMANN”, directly on the opposite side of the Frankfurt Opera – it sounds like a perfect evening in Frankfurt to me.

Experience at Restaurant Schoenemann Frankfurt an der Oper

Restaurant-Schoenemann Frankfurt:

I just like sitting at the window, watching people getting out of the cars with great dresses and climbing the last steps up to the opera. I myself already in a beautiful dress, ready for the perfect evening.

For me the big advantage this time in Frankfurt, I could watch the action and at the same time still enjoy my tea after a nice dessert.

The restaurant SCHOENEMANN is located in the new building at Opernplatz 16. It can be entered both through the large doors and the friendly with flowers decorated entrance area from the side of the Frankfurt Opera, but also from the opposite side inside the SOFITEL Hotel Frankfurt OPERA.

Upon entering the restaurant, the orientation is immediately noticeable – it should be elegant, but cozy, it should appear upscale, but not stiff and above all, one should be allowed to feel directly comfortable as a guest.

The combination of cozy couch furniture turned to each other, comfortable armchairs and enough space, invites you to linger. The 360° view from the restaurant before opening for dinner gives a first good impression, more 360° pictures of me and the location are set at Google maps.

What is immediately noticeable, the staff are incredibly friendly to all guests. Every wish, no matter how small, is directly tried to fulfill. If you can not yet decide on a wine, the guest is presented a small selection and also immediately explained.

After a few minutes in the restaurant SCHOENEMANN you have almost forgotten the city in which you are. You just relax and take in the view of the historic opera house and the skyline beginning behind it and notice how the evening is dawning.

Various aperitifs and wines are set up in the entrance area, when you enter the restaurant through the corridor of the Sofitel Frankfurt Opera, you pass a modern illuminated wine rack and can already take a look at the wines selected by the IHK tested and certified sommelier.

In addition to the comfortable seating, there is also space for a larger group or a private dining event with a view of the restaurant. Especially for small events and meetings the perfect location.

Schoenemann Restaurant Frankfurt Opera in the Sofitel Hotel

If I had been asked in advance what to expect, I probably would have guessed completely wrong. The classical opera house on one side, the large forecourt and the French-oriented SOFITEL hotel on the opposite side.

My expectation would have been very classic French fine-dining cuisine, but I was completely surprised by the staff and chef Lukas Sulik.

Austrian-born Lukas Sulik can already look back on an interesting career and has been inspired by the various stations. From traditional good middle-class cuisine, to working with star chef Thomas Macyszyn, to experiences with three-star chef Joachim Wissler – Lukas Sulik has absorbed many moments for the new French bistro cuisine with a regional touch.

These influences are also noticeable in the composition of the dishes and his description of the cuisine. The term “creative feel-good cuisine” describes it perfectly – classic dishes with modern and international influences, as well as a touch of special creativity.

The menu features familiar dishes – interpreted in a modern way. The evening becomes an experience and one experiences many dishes in a completely new way. Plates are not simply put on the table, but often the dishes are still prepared in front of the guest.

Thus, small “extra requests” or intolerances are not a problem for the kitchen and can be easily accommodated.

I like moments in restaurants when you can discover something at the neighboring table, such as a classic Caesar salad, which is not served mixed, however, but is first put together for the guest at the table. People, like me, who do not like the strong taste of capers in the salad, can deselect them directly.

The restaurant SCHOENEMANN is really about the guest and feeling good. You are not a performer in a kitchen show, but are allowed to experience and spend your personal evening.

So it was also for me and I was allowed to taste a lovingly composed three-course surprise menu. Who knows me, knows how I love surprises on the one hand, but am also incredibly curious on the other.

You always turn around, look a little through the restaurant and the other plates and think, how will my starter be, how will my main course be and which dessert will be chosen.

So for me, I had the following menu for the evening at SCHOENEMANN Restaurant across from the Frankfurt Opera House:

Menu & Dining Options

Starter
Young leaf salad / marinated vegetables / Prelibato vinaigrette
Oolong tea
Jardin du Luxembourg
floral note (hawthorn)

Main course:
Coq au cider of organic chicken
Black tea
Thé des Mille Collines
slightly woody taste (ginger, cinnamon, cardamom)

Dessert 1:
Chocolate sphere / raspberry
Rooibos tea
Rooibos Bali
Exotic fruits (lychee, grapefruit, roses, jasmine)

Dessert 2:
Rhubarb gratin / yogurt sorbet
White tea – Passion de fleurs
Floral note (primarily rose, secondarily apricot, passion fruit)

For me, a new – but above all very interesting – experience was the coordinated tea accompaniment. In addition to a water accompaniment and vegetable cocktail accompaniment at dinner, the matched tea was a very successful alternative for the menu. I would choose it again anytime directly as an option to dinner.

You can tell right away if the restaurant staff loves the job, if there is an interplay between the kitchen and service, and if the guest is meant to enjoy the evening.

Conclusion – Restaurant Schoenemann Frankfurt Opera

The Restaurant Schoenemann has become an absolutely interesting alternative in the restaurant world in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. The perfect location opposite the Frankfurt Opera invites you to a nice dinner after or before a visit to the opera.

Likewise, the restaurant is wonderful as a conclusion to a nice shopping day in downtown Frankfurt or for a meeting with friends.

The guests of the restaurant Schoenemann are mixed, from business people celebrating the conclusion of a contract, to girlfriends who end the evening nicely, to couples who sit dreamily in the cozy seating areas.

The staff of the house is extremely attentive and guest-oriented at all times. Every wish, no matter how small, is handled immediately and always with a very caring friendliness.

For me the restaurant SCHOENEMANN in Frankfurt belongs to the restaurants, which one should have experienced (at least) once in Frankfurt. I will be happy to report back to Restaurant Schoenemann in the coming weeks and maybe we will meet there….
