Chatuchak Market is the world’s largest weekly market in Bangkok with over 300,000 visitors per day – close to the Mo-Chit BTS Skytrain station. It is easily accessible from almost every hotel in the city. You can find various household items, clothes, collectibles, cell phone items and cases, food and live animals.
History of Chatuchak Market
The first Chatuchak Market took place in the late 1940s and grew to a considerable size over the next few years. With now more than 10,000 stalls and stores in 27 categories on over 1.1 square kilometers, the market is not only incredibly large, but also incredibly crowded!
Fruit and food – Chatuchak Market
For me, it was particularly interesting to see the different food stalls and “restaurants”, the special Thai ice cream, as well as the freshly produced drinks and juices at Chatuchak Market.
Fake designer bags
On the other hand, there were of course “brand new” designer labels from all over the world for only 5 US$ 🙂 … For all of you who are also looking for furniture or collector’s items and can’t get them directly into your suitcase, there are of course also various shipping options.
Opening hours Chatuchak
If you want to visit the Chatuchak Market, you should go there early in the morning, as the humidity and temperature become extreme during the day. Remember to only take the items you absolutely need and pay attention to the various warning signs in the narrow aisles (thieves!)
Conclusion – Chatuchak Market in Bangkok
To do it once in a lifetime, it is a special place for a Saturday or Sunday morning in Bangkok. The smells are sometimes extreme as there really is a lot of food on offer. The heat is not to be underestimated and the crowdedness is sometimes a bit scary. I’m looking forward to my next visit to the market in Barcelona.
There is one problem with the Chatuchak market in Bangkok that I still have to address, as it has already been flagged and reported by PETA – the area with young baby animals, small dogs, cats, etc. – If you also have a great love of animals, you should avoid this area.
Maybe I’ll have a look at the Bangkok night market soon, then I can tell you my impression of it too.
