Rarely have I heard from so many different people before my trip to Mallorca – “Are you also visiting the Castillo Hotel Son Vida – the hotel with the most beautiful terrace overlooking Palma de Mallorca” and I have to admit, this raised my expectations of the hotel even higher.
I now also wanted to stand on the terrace where supposedly every second girl in Palma dreams of getting married. No wedding location in Palma de Mallorca is as popular as this terrace with a view of the bay.
Arrival and check-in
The Castillo Son Vida is located in the urbanization “Son Vida” where, in addition to several luxury villas, there are also the two hotels of the Starwood/SPG Group, the Castillo Son Vida and the Arabella Sheraton Golf Hotel.
A guarded entrance at the entrance to the area, which is about a 20-minute drive from Palma de Mallorca airport and about 15 minutes from the city center of Palma and is easily accessible by car as well as by cab.
A cab ride to the city center costs between 8-10 EUR. This is certainly one of the reasons why many guests choose not to take a car and are picked up directly from the hotel by limousine and taken to the historic 13th century castle.
The historic history of the Castillo is already evident here on arrival, an old castle tower (even if it was only built around 40 years ago 🙂 greets guests from afar, a large entrance gate and a driveway leads guests the last few meters to the entrance.
While the car stops, the door is already greeted by the bell captain and the guest is kindly welcomed and led inside to the reception. No need to worry about luggage or the rental car, it goes without saying at Castillo Son Vida that this is handled unobtrusively and efficiently for the guest.
One last look over the landscape and mountains of Palma – one step into the old castle walls and I had arrived in another, quiet world, forgetting the hustle and bustle of the city, the airport… I had arrived, in my castle for the next few days.
164 rooms and suites
The Castillo Hotel has 164 rooms and suites, including of course a “Royal Suite” with 132 square meters and the “Loewe Suite”. This is furnished by the Spanish designer house “Loewe” and is characterized by a special attention to detail, as I was already able to experience on site when visiting the Loewe stores in Madrid.
The special highlight is the villa suite with an area of over 300 square meters and a private swimming pool that I could look out over from my beautiful accommodation.
The Castillo rooms start at 26sqm and range up to 50sqm and are as varied as the castle, whether located in the historic building or in the modern extension with a view over the adjacent golf courses, as well as the city of Palma de Mallorca and the bay.
Of course, each room is equipped with a well-functioning WLAN network, as well as all amenities for a pleasant stay at the hotel.
Golf & Wellness
As you can already see from the photos of my room, the Castillo Son Vida is also a golf hotel, with the various courses directly adjacent to the hotel and inviting you to watch from your own terrace.
As at the St. Regis Hotel Mardavall, guests can access the 63 holes of the neighboring golf courses and have the corresponding green times arranged directly at the hotel’s own desk. The free golf shuttle also runs between the hotels and takes guests to the courses.
After a round on the golf course, the hotel’s wellness area is the perfect place to relax, whether in the large outdoor pool with a view over the bay or in the hotel’s spa area with care products from Anne Semonin Paris and Ligne St. Barth. Various treatment rooms are available for massages and cosmetic products.
Restaurants & Bar
As soon as you enter the hotel and take your first walk through the hotel, you will notice the classic “Armas” bar, which, as the Spanish name “Armas = gun license” suggests, contains a large collection of historical weapons. The seating areas with 40 seats are surrounded by showcases with weapons, which give the castle and the bar a special charm.
You automatically feel like you’ve been transported back a few centuries. You can then enter the terrace through the large glass doors – 80 seats with a view over Palma and the perfect place to round off a beautiful day in Spain with a glass of wine (or a cappuccino like me) :).
The next morning you have the opportunity to look out over the city again and enjoy breakfast (and dinner) at Es Castell. In the evening, you will find an upscale menu from Juan López, which will spoil you with Mediterranean cuisine.
If you would also like to try out the special dishes in this restaurant, you should try the buffet on Wednesday, including homemade tiramisu.
I have already introduced you to the third place for a nice evening, the “Es Vi” restaurant, where you will find a great selection of fresh tapas and delicacies, which you can also enjoy on the Castillo terrace.
CONCLUSION – Castillo Son Vida Mallorca hotel
I can only confirm the announcement “The most beautiful terrace in Palma” and when you stand on the Castillo terrace for the first time and look out over the city, it is simply a “WOW effect”.
Whether from your room or during dinner, the view is really special and makes the hotel a special place, whether for a few days of relaxing vacation or for a meeting or conference thanks to the meeting spaces.
The historic castle is simply waiting to be discovered – there are not many hotels that make history so vividly possible, whether historical paintings on the walls, historical armor or the weapons collection in the bar.
The Castillo Son Vida offers sports fans and vacationers upscale, luxurious accommodation in a special ambience with a fascinating view. If you are looking for a special view over Palma, want to play golf or are looking for a good restaurant while enjoying the comfort of a hotel, Castillo Son Vida is the perfect place to stay.
