Visit the impressive Karl Lagerfeld exhibition at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn. The Bundeskunsthalle Bonn always hosts special exhibitions, like currently the exhibition “Fashion Method” of the most famous German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. Under the motto “Fashion Method”, the Bundeskunsthalle presents the works and life of Karl Lagerfeld.
From the Kameha Grand Hotel, the comfortable e-bikes took us across the Konrad Adenauer Bridge through the Rhine meadows to the World Conference Center (formerly the German Bundestag) and then directly to the Bundeskunsthalle, which can be recognized from afar by the blue pyramids on the roof.
Karl Lagerfeld exhibition in the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn
After entering the Karl Lagerfeld exhibition Modemethode one finds on the left the biography of Karl Lagerfeld and his portrait. There is hardly a designer who became a fashion icon through his style itself, that he founded his own Karl Lagerfeld label with T-shirts and his style last.
Karl Lagerfeld means: dark sunglasses, white hair tied in a braid, high collar, often short gloves and a fan. In 2000, the designer lost 42 kilos and wrote a book about how he managed to live up to his own ideal.
Tour of the fashion method Karl Lagerfeld exhibition
At the beginning of the Karl Lagerfeld exhibition you stand in front of Karl Lagerfeld’s workplace. Orderly chaos and countless information and impressions. Books, pens, sketches, gifts from friends. Everything on the floor is to be destroyed. I suspect that some fans here would have liked to frame the “bad” sketches themselves.
After a wall with all the brands for which Lagerfeld was active, you enter the first room with real looks and clothes. The scenery is modeled after a street with sidewalks.
One by one, you look at timeless designs for Fendi, Chloe, Chanel and Lagerfeld. In each design, one is struck by the tremendous attention to detail. Beautiful fabrics and subtle colors. You fall in love with several models at once and would love to see one or the other piece in your own closet.
I quickly realize that anyone who was able to buy a piece of Lagerfeld’s clothing over 50 years ago can still wear it today. With many designs, one wonders about the year each was printed on the floor, as many designs seemed highly topical.
After a huge wall of sketches by Karl Lagerfeld, you enter another room that leaves you speechless. A forest of paper containing selected designs by Lagerfeld.
I wouldn’t have expected a fashion show by Lagerfeld in any other way, but in an exhibition it was a very special highlight at the end of the exhibition, which shows a total of 120 looks.
Conclusion – Karl Lagerfeld exhibition fashion method
Anyone who has been to this Karl Lagerfeld exhibition Fashion Method will understand that many young women dream of owning a timeless piece by Lagerfeld one day, just to have a piece of eternity and class. The timeless elegance and high quality materials are also impressive as exhibition pieces at Karl Lagerfeld exhibition.
For most, that dream is a Chanel handbag. The pure luxury as a statement piece. The popular classic Chanel leather handbags have risen extremely in value in recent years and there is no end in sight. If you were lucky at the time, you might have been able to grab a piece from the designer collaboration with H&M, however nothing comes close to the value of true classics, which this exhibition was able to underline once again.
I thought long after in the spa at the Kameha Grand, which piece is my favorite of the Karl Lagerfeld exhibition and I really could not decide on a piece of clothing. The fashion world would be missing something without Karl Lagerfeld.
Note: Many thanks to the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn for this insight into the exhibition “Fashion Method” and the exceptional permission to take photos.
