As a Dusseldorf woman to go to Cologne to the GLASHAUS restaurant is of course always a challenge (note irony :). From the most beautiful view in Düsseldorf with TV tower and media harbor, then to look at the Cologne Cathedral is of course a change. But if you put aside exactly these affectionate niceties between Cologne and Düsseldorf, you will experience a dreamlike scenery through the large atrium on the Cologne Cathedral, the Theodor Heuss Bridge and the Musical Dome at the main station. The Rhine with the excursion boats in front of it, the setting sun – an absolute fairy tale scenery.

When you enter the “GLASHAUS Restaurant”, you immediately get the impression of a large dining room, a living room with friends. At the sides the possibility for afterwards in each case premises for private Dining Events, in each case with own terrace, who would not like to celebrate there?

Large walls of cabinets with selected books form a special backdrop, the lighting discreet, but perfectly adequate and, above all, enough space between the tables, so that you can have a good chat with friends and business partners, without letting the other guests directly participate in the conversation.

The guests quite different, from a couple having a nice evening, to international business partners celebrating a graduation, health-oriented guests looking forward to a good piece of fish from the menu of the day, to local guests who have chosen the way across the bridge or from the adjacent media houses to end the evening.

GLASHAUS Restaurant – international menu

A glance at the menu of the GLASHAUS Restaurant makes it immediately clear – there is a pleasant cross-section of international cuisine, without having to choose directly expansive over several pages. From freshly caught fish, to various meat dishes, to vegetarian dishes, the menu at the GLASHAUS Restaurant in Cologne offers a special selection for every guest, and even for me, the decision for the evening was relatively difficult.

It read directly everything so tempting and you could just choose different dishes and try through the map, such as:

Herbed Potato Waffle, Macadamia Stramp, Roasted Fennel, Indian Yogurt Sauce.
Pink veal tenderloin and brisket in herb broth, mushrooms de Paris, sauteed chervil bulb, croquettes, spinach and truffle jus
Crispy sea bass, baby squid, grilled artichoke, spring onion, lardo, ricotta balls

One notices already when looking at the menu of the GLASHAUS restaurant the special combination of international dishes with a strong and regional reference. Chef Jonas Wüstner has been trying for many years to give the dishes a special focus and is constantly refining the offer, always on the lookout for the latest trend.

As a guest, you don’t even have to wait for the first course to have a reason to return to the Glashaus – the view is simply unbeatable. The illuminated Cologne Cathedral in the evening, plus the trains over the Hohenzollern Bridge and the excursion steamers on the Rhine.

If you are looking for a special experience, you can sit down with your friends or business partners at one of the two “Chef’s Tables” and let yourself be pampered in a special way. Especially for a family celebration with several people, after a business meeting or to kick off an event, the “Chef’s Table” is always perfect. You quickly get into conversation and can also share many dishes. Here, too, there is the option of choosing a selected multi-course menu, as in the restaurant, or having it tailored directly to the event.

If you want to get to know the glass house and the premises in a different way, you can get to know them in a completely different way, for example with a cooking course in the Patîsserie and or with cocktail courses, which are of course currently also well suited as a gift.

During my visit, one of the two rooms was set for a Christmas private dining event, the fireplace at the end, plus a large grand piano and the view. You just want to take a seat here.

For my stay in the evening, there was a beautiful table with a direct view of the cathedral. The service in the glass house very friendly and attentive. On request, detailed information about the dishes are given and also very well advised.

Thus the decision fell afterwards once on a direction of meat and fresh salads, straight also, since the GLASHAUS in the Hyatt Regency Cologne offers many meat courts from a lava stone, which rarely occurs.

So for my evening at Glashaus with a view of the cathedral, I chose the following dishes from the menu:

Romaine lettuce with bacon, croutons, Parmesan and Caesar dressing.
Tartar of dry-aged filet, liver cream, truffle fritters, sweet and sour mushrooms and wild herbs
Fillet of Argentine pasture-raised beef – especially juicy and aromatic
Australian Creekstone Striplion – the winner of the World Steak Challenge with a special marbling and a small but crunchy fat rim that caramelizes during frying
Coconut crème brûlée, white coffee ice cream, pickled and grilled pineapple, Kaffir lime cream.
Curd dumplings with apricot filling, pistachio cream, nougat ice cream and vanilla sauce

The courses perfectly matched and also, although the restaurant was almost completely full again to the last seat, so the service and waiting time between dishes was very pleasant.

Conclusion – GLASHAUS restaurant with cathedral view in Cologne

The GLASHAUS restaurant offers not only hotel guests, but also many local visitors a perfect option for a business lunch or dinner with friends or family.

Jonas Wüstner and his team at GLASHAUS Restaurant also know how to interpret classics in a modern way without being directly experimental. You can also visit the restaurant with international guests and find many alternatives. Small requests, such as a portion of chili for seasoning for Asian guests are brought immediately and courteously and also asked again if you have other wishes.

One always has the feeling that the well-being of the guest is in the foreground. This can also be seen in the continuous occupancy of the restaurant from the beginning of breakfast until the evening. Whether it’s a business lunch or a multi-course menu in the evening, the Glashaus in the Hyatt Regency Hotel Cologne is a popular choice.

Even as a Düsseldorf resident, I like to come back to Cologne and the GLASHAUS restaurant and then look forward to new ideas from Jonas Wüstner and his kitchen team. Until the next visit to the Glashaus with the fantastic view of the Cologne Cathedral – to new dishes from the lava stone grill or other delicious dishes from the menu… I am curious… and now I am looking forward to the DOX Restaurant in Düsseldorf at the Hyatt Düsseldorf.
