Best and simple YouTuber equipment for beginners on YouTube. As a beginner on YouTube, you need not only basic filming and video editing skills, but also good YouTuber gear for beginners. Of course, you don’t have to start with the very best photography and filming equipment if you want to blog or shoot videos. However, the quality shouldn’t be too bad either. My assessment of how you should start as a beginner on YouTube I have summarized for you once.

How do I start with YouTube, which camera do I need for YouTube, what should I show on my YouTube channel?

YouTuber equipment for beginners – just start

Some time ago I discovered my fondness for YouTube and already created a list of the most important German Youtuber. Even though some great YouTubers have already established themselves on the market, I notice that there are always new YouTubers. Similar to blogs, there are often no problems with new blood.

Unlike blogging, you can’t stay hidden when vlogging. Bloggers usually don’t show their face in the beginning and often write about different topics. YouTubers have to show themselves unhidden. Without a face, most viewers would quickly lose interest. Of course, similar to face pictures, you can retouch something until you like the result.

You can shoot a movie scene as many times as you want until you’re satisfied and as flawless as possible. But if you ask me, it’s the little mistakes that make the difference. You don’t have to be perfect to be remembered and generate followers. But to get followers, of course, you have to start in the first place.

If you’re starting fresh on YouTube, think about what you want to show others in advance: What makes you special? Can you teach other people something? Do you have topics you want to talk about? Feel free to look at other YouTubers and think about what you like best about others or what you might be able to do better.

If you just want to try Youtube, don’t have your own blog and want to do it more for fun and don’t know yet if your own YOUTUBE channel is something for you, often the internal camera in your laptop or PC is already enough.

Even for the first simple “test videos” you can often use the video function of your smartphone, as I do it even with my small video clips for Facebook often still and use the video function of my current Samsung Galaxy.

The best way to do this is to have the YouTube app directly on your smartphone. Simply put together a small clip, without much effort and first get a feeling in front of the camera.

YouTube lives from trial and error – find a place or a background that looks good to you and more importantly – where you feel comfortable – For starters, often a small space in your apartment, some daylight, possibly a desk lamp and above all, a good mood is enough.

YouTuber equipment for beginners – understanding camera equipment

Very important is of course the technical equipment, or the YouTuber equipment for beginners. Since I already use a great photo camera for my blog, which can also film – I could of course continue to use my Canon 5D Mark III for my videos directly. But it’s not a camera you can recommend to a beginner. If you ask me what camera you need to get started with YouTube, for example, I like to recommend the Canon 100D.

Why the Canon 100D? At only EUR 462.00 (current offer price at Amazon – affiliate link) incl. lens, you get a very good beginner camera for YouTubers and bloggers. Good usability thanks to the touchscreen. A lightweight in a really handy format that can do exactly what you need to create beautiful pictures for others.

You don’t need professional equipment if you just want to start blogging or vlogging. A good camera as YouTuber equipment for beginners, like the Canon 100D gives you the best foundation to have fun with. I personally like the option of being able to use the camera as a video camera, but also as a still camera. Often a blogger also quickly becomes a vlogger or the other way around.

YouTuber equipment for beginners – the perfect background

Once you have familiarized yourself with the camera he wants to use, then you should set up a nice backdrop. The backdrop, the background, is based on what you want to cover on your videos. Beauty-YouTubers usually have a make-up table in the background. Lifestyle YouTubers are usually found sitting on a sofa or bed.

Cooking-YouTuber of course in the kitchen. If you want to show your outfits, then I can only recommend you to film outside. The light is always better outside than inside for full-body shots. However, there is no limit to your creativity and you should definitely try out different things with your YouTuber equipment for beginners.

If you prefer to shoot FMA videos, i.e. follow-me-around videos or vlog videos, I would rather advise you to start with a Canon Legria Mini X (available for EUR 399.00 e.g. at Amazon – Affiliate).

The sound here is better than with an iPhone and the camera is so small that you can always have it in your handbag. Of course, you can also use the smartphone for the beginning, but the quality on many smartphones is too poor for YouTube and thus exhausting for the viewer.

What should I consider for the first videos?

When you produce a YouTube video, no matter what good equipment, great lighting, special microphone or special lens for beauty shots and you just had a bad day, it transfers to your video… and on very few videos you want to see people in a bad mood who are just having a bad day.

YouTube is still entertainment for many people and a welcome alternative to the TV. From the stationary device, viewing switches to laptop, tablet or smartphone.

I, too, have days where I’ve been on the go all day and resolved to shoot another video clip in the evening – but then just don’t make it – it doesn’t matter… then you just do it the next day. You do YouTube “still” for fun, you don’t have a company behind it that tells you how many videos have to go online per week. Do it when you are in the mood.

Which camera should I use at the beginning?

I looked at some more channels and almost always a camera from CANON is used, such as for starters, Canon EOS 600D, Canon EOS 700D, Canon EOS 750D (new!!) or even Canon EOS 100D. These cameras often come already with lens and are immediately ready for the first shot.

I always find it fascinating when forums or even social groups (like Facebook, Google+, etc.) directly recommend that in order to start successfully with Youtube, you need a Canon EOS 6D, Canon EOS 5D Mark III or even a Nikon D4. The quality of the videos does not only depend on the body of the camera and there are many, much cheaper alternatives for the beginning, which I would like to introduce to you.

What good is a camera for 1,500 to 3,000 euros, if you realize after a short time, you have no time for Youtube or no interest. Should the good camera then lie around in the closet? No! So rather start small and simple and then, if you do it longer, expand the video equipment piece by piece.

The easiest way to test a video is usually the built-in camera in your laptop or tablet. Just try it first with the devices you have, many smartphones also already have a good camera (for starters).

Record a video – show it to your best friend and decide if it is interesting – or not. If you don’t have a video function in your laptop, you can upgrade it with a simple “webcam”. These are available from Logitech, for example, and cost less than 20 euros on Amazon.

Surely you will not reach the quality of the best and most influential Youtuber, but you have a good start and can first try whether you Youtube – regularly – fun.

Good DSLR camera for everyday YouTube – Blogging & Video

A good camera for YOUTUBE everyday life is of course not so easy to find, the choice simply huge and often it is the small details that make the difference. If you also want to produce a few nice photos for your blog at the same time or use as a good template for the thumbnails on Youtube, SLR cameras (DSLR camera) are also a good choice.

Were most digital SLR cameras in recent years still at prices of 700 EUR and more, but also in the direction of the photo market and video market has developed. Canon offers, for example, since a year a great entry-level model, as a complement to the Canon EOS 600D, Canon EOS 700D, Canon EOS 750D, which is about 150-200 EUR cheaper with almost identical features.

The Canon EOS 100D with lens is often already sold as a set for about 500 EUR, with a little luck even just below. I took a closer look at the Canon camera for you in the last few weeks and was absolutely thrilled. Compared to my professional equipment with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III and corresponding accessories, the Canon EOS 100D offers sufficient functions for a good YouTube video and also for bloggers a good start.

Blur and bokeh – the right lens for your camera

Surely you can shoot videos without much problems with the 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens already included in the kit (e.g. Canon 100D with 18-55mm kit) and your videos will be very nice. But many of you also want to have the blur effect in the background, especially as a beauty youtuber and for styling videos.

I like to play with a strong bokeh in the background myself in my videos, especially for close-ups and that’s just not possible with the lens included in most kits.

The solution is a relatively inexpensive lens, which you can order for your Canon and Nikon Camera e.g. at Amazon. The lens is a 50mm f1.8 and if you then film with an aperture of 1.8, 2.0, 2.2 and focus accordingly, the background will run so nicely for you too.

There are, of course, the alternatives with a 50mm f1.4 lens or even with a 50mm f1.2 lens, but they are in completely different price ranges. The recommended 50mm lens and also used by many beauty bloggers you can currently get for about 119 EUR at Amazon.

The right sound – the right microphone

Surely one of the biggest problems of today’s cameras. Whether you use a camera from CANON, Nikon or Olympus, the small hole in the frequent plastic housing of the camera simply does not provide enough opportunities to record your YOUTUBE videos accordingly.

If it is still acceptable in your own home with a little practice, it will often end in disaster at the latest with the first outdoor recording. The wind, the sounds of the city or the passing cars and then in addition a good moderation from you – it is almost not possible.

Compared to some microphones in the laptop or smartphone, the built-in microphones of the cameras are hardly usable. If the laptop with the external webcam mentioned above is sufficient for the first test recordings, you will need an external microphone if you want to do something more.

Of course you should check beforehand if your camera has a corresponding input for an external microphone, but on the CANON 100D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 700D, 750D and also larger cameras from CANON this is available on the left side under a rubber tab.

The perfect set up is always a bit of an experiment and also I certainly tried 5-7 different microphones for internal use until I was happy with the solution. Good directional microphones, which do not pick up the noise to the left and right of you so strongly, you can find e.g. from Rode at Amazon and these cost about 60-80 EUR. The right microphone depends very much on your use and simply needs to be tried once in different situations.

Since many YOUTUBER also always like to know what I use to record my video clips for my YOUTUBE channel, I can also reveal that after a long search, I decided on a microphone solution from Sennheiser, which you can also see more often on my videos …

Light and lighting of the videos for beginners

If you want to brighten up your apartment and your room a bit at first and don’t want to work directly with expensive daylight lamps and big softboxes, like the big YOUTUBER ones, I can recommend you at first to always let as much daylight as possible into your apartment and if necessary brighten it up a bit with small simple and cheap lamps.

At the moment there are many different video lights with LEDs, which cost on average between 28 and 35 EUR and can be operated with batteries as well as with rechargeable batteries. Here, of course, there are again the well-known suppliers such as Walimex and Yongnou, which offer good quality for the price.

At the moment, I use a video lamp for fast operations from Neewee, which currently costs about 30 EUR on Amazon.

Very recommendable are currently the new and very thin LED light panels from Neewee, which are only 1.5cm thick and where both brightness and color temperature can be adjusted. Thus, it is possible even in the evening to conjure up a beautiful daylight. The panels are also well suited for mounting on the camera and currently start at about 29 EUR (LED light panel for YouTube at Amazon).
