Superbowl 44 took place in Miami 2010, on February 7, 2010 at Sun Life Stadium between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts. The day of the Superbowl in Miami was a very special event for me this year. I had gotten tickets to the 44th Super Bowl, the final game of American football in the National Football League (NFL), and then at my second home in Miami, Florida, of all places.

I had been given the tickets as a gift for my birthday and they made me very happy. I will remember this moment for many years to come and will be happy to have been there for the Superbowl 44. From here once again a very heartfelt thank you…

Superbowl 44 in Miami 2010 – New Orleans Saints against Indianapolis Colts

So I flew to Miami quite spontaneously and was lucky not to have to look for a hotel. I was able to stay at friends’ houses, because most of the hotels had been completely booked for months. All of South Florida was already in Superbowl XLIV fever, which meant that every night there was a party and an event by a sponsor somewhere on the beach or in town. It was clearly Superbowl 44 Miami 2010 time.

The nice thing about sporting events in the USA for me was that it didn’t matter whether you were a fan of the Indiana Colts or the New Orleans Saints, people celebrated together and peacefully. That’s how it’s fun for me, too…

The way to the American Football Superbowl 44 – Sun Life Stadium Miami

On February 7, 2010 we went to the stadium to attend the Superbowl 44 Miami 2010. If you didn’t have a friend who brought you to the stadium (or in the surrounding area) you had to walk about 10-15 minutes towards the stadium and pay 60 USD for the parking lot. Fans were already moving back to the stadium together, whether Saints or Colts, and there was friendly goading of each other as to who might have to cry later.

The security checks for Superbowl 44 were already set up extensively around the stadium and it went quickly, friendly and yet thoroughly searched in the inner area. Here you could first get food and drink (soft drinks from 5 USD, sandwiches 10 USD, small pizza 20 USD), but these prices did not matter to the Americans and it was taken what there was. After all, it is only once SuperBowl 44 and for many also only once in a lifetime live.

The whole mood was very special between anticipation and goose bumps. Between party and feelings of happiness to tension and curiosity. On the way to my seats in the upper tier, you could already hear the marching band heating up. The stadium was almost empty, but the atmosphere on the field was already in full swing. On each seat was a small white towel with Superbowl 44 imprint, a nice reminder.

Before the game and the Superbowl 44 in Miami 2010 started, there was of course the American national anthem healthy by Carrie Underwood, as well as “America the beautiful” by Queen Latifah. My absolute goosebumps moment came when punctually the interceptors with their jets flew over the stadium. You could feel the warmth of the exhaust jets on your skin because the stadium had no roof. The pride of the Americans comes over you at such moments.

In the famous halftime show for which many in Germany still stay awake, there was “The Who” with some of your hits, such as Pinball Wizard, Who Are You or Baba O’Riley and Won’t Get Fooled Again. I wasn’t full of anticipation beforehand, but the stage set-up and the show was simply convincing and carried away even every half-fan and non-fan.

Experience at Superbowl 44 in Miami 2010

As a neutral spectator, I didn’t care at first whether the Colts or the Saints would win, though my heart was more for the Saints because an entire city started to pull together because of Hurricane Katrina. The celebrating fans were much more colorful or golden and just brought more atmosphere across. The colors black and gold absolutely fit my fashion style and I suspect I will be seen in a Saints jersey in the future.

After one of the best games of all Super Bowls, the New Orleans Saints with Drew Brees finally won deservedly with 31:17 and the party could really start afterwards. While the Colts fans politely withdrew, there was no stopping the Saints fans. That’s exactly what everyone needed and the trick plays were perfect to still turn the Saints’ deficit into a win.

If you are a fan of great sporting events and at the same time like the easy-going nature of the Americans, you are absolutely recommended to apply for tickets to the Superbowl. For me it will certainly not have been the last Superbowl in my life and the next mega sporting event should not be long in coming. By coincidence, I was there just in time for the decisive NBA game of the Dallas Mavericks with Dirk Nowitzki. This also took place in Miami, but in the Bayside Arena. I wish every sports fan that much sporting luck.

The next Super Bowls will take place on 02/06/2011 at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas (home of the Dallas Cowboys) and on 02/05/2012 at Lucas Oil Stadium (home of the Indianapolis Colts), and for the tenth time in history in 2013 in New Orleans, and hopefully I will be there again for one of these three events. Who dat!?
