When you see the extensions results on Instagram Stories every day, you can’t help but be amazed. It conjures up beautiful hair and hairstyles from broken and shaggy hair after a few hours.

Melina Best’s team is especially known for their balayage strands – dark roots and light gradient to the tips. Personally, I would also like the balayage style for my hair, but I have simply had my hair dyed dark too many times that lightening it would only bring out an unpleasant red again.

It would take about a year for my hair to get to an acceptable shade and even then it may not be what you would like it to be yet. I have tried switching to lighter hair before and got extremely annoyed with the red color cast afterwards. Therefore, I stick with a nice dark brown.

If you deal with extensions and hair extensions, you will quickly find different variants for the insertion. The difference lies in the width of the strand and the form of attachment.

With tapes, wider strands are glued into the hair, whereby the own hair strand is then sheathed from above and below by the tapes respectively. With bondings, thin strands of hair are “welded” into the hair by coating one’s own thin strand of hair with a type of wax. Tapes are used more quickly, and both variants are inconspicuous; bondings are extremely practical if you like to wear your hair in a braid.

Just recently I went into my current extensions again in my weekly review. I currently have a length of 60cm in my hair, which is simply already too much hair length for many women. Usually you have a hair length of 45cm with hair extensions, unless you just want the extra long version, like with me.

How long does the insertion take?

The pure insertion takes between 30-60 minutes, depending on the type of extensions – tapes are inserted faster than bondings, like with me. In my case, the old extensions had to be removed first, which always takes a little more time. In addition, there was fresh attachment color including Olaplex treatment, cut and styling – in total I was at Melina for a good three hours.

How long do the extensions last?

Again, it always depends on the care. If you always do a cleansing cut, the hair tangles less. However, it also always depends on the quality of the hair. I can wear Melina’s hair for five to six months before I feel I need to renew it. Again, it depends a lot on your own hair growth, as well as how you use your hair care products. When it comes to hair care, I think it’s especially important to use high-quality products as well. If you already have valuable strands inserted, the hair care products should also be correspondingly good and high quality. Saving a few cents or euros can quickly destroy the entire hair result. Therefore, it is better to ask Melina directly for the right care – especially for your type!

Is it possible to set the hair again since my hair grows so fast?

So far I have not used my hair a second time, but there you should perhaps best ask the team of Melina Best directly once. After the six months, the roots have grown out about 5cm for me and yet the extensions are invisible in the hair.

Does it damage the hair?

Because the extensions coat my own hair, I even have the feeling that my own hair is more protected. Of course, there is quite a bit of stress on the bondings, but I still have enough hair on my head even when I take them out, it just feels unfamiliar and naked then.

Why do you have bondings and not tapes?

I have tried both options and just like the feel of bondings a little better. If you like to wear your hair open, tapes fall nicer, but I also like to wear a braid and then I like bondings better. I don’t feel the harder bondings after I get used to them, but tapes are just more inconspicuous and softer.
