Why do women actually need hair extensions? Are women just too lazy or too impatient to grow their own hair? What can you do quickly for long hair? Is there a trick how hair grows faster? How do VIPs and celebrities do it when they want to get long hair fast?
Many questions that have reached me in recent weeks and that I have once again taken to Melina Best, the expert for long hair. To do this, I tell you why I currently prefer to choose tape extensions and what colors I choose in the summer.
Hair extensions at Melina Best hairdresser
Again and again I receive similar questions from different girls and women who are interested in hair extensions and extensions. Sometimes they are basic questions before visiting the expert and sometimes then a touch of despair and uncertainty after the insertion of extensions.
I always notice from this that there are still so many questions about extensions and it makes sense to enlighten you even more about it. I have already written more about hair extensions and answered the most frequently asked questions about extensions in a video.
Over time, however, my preference has changed from bondings to tapes. In general, extensions are a matter of trust in the hairdresser and I can tell you that I still love to trust the team of Melina Best Friseur. Hardly anyone in Germany uses more extensions every day than the salon at Barbarossa Platz in Cologne.
If anyone knows extensions inside out, it’s Melina and her team. I have never left the salon sad or with a funny feeling and know that I can come back to the team immediately with any question. You can tell the experience and routine, as well as the good work and good quality.
Your question whether Melina is really good, I can therefore gladly answer with “yes”. Melina Best and her team have not only extremely much experience with extensions, but likewise with the matching and popular balayage strands. The results, which you can see in the Instagram Stories at @melinabest_friseur, always look fantastically beautiful and speak for themselves.
Why I prefer to use tape extensions?
I started with bondings for my first extensions back in the day and now only use tape extensions. While with bondings the connection points to your own hair are rather small, round and hard, with tapes you have soft, flat and wide bonding points.
In the meantime, my favorite is clearly the wide tape extensions. Once you get used to it, you can hardly imagine the hard bondings. Bondings hurt a bit especially in the first time on the scalp, because you can hardly hide the hard spots especially when sleeping.
Also in the last phase shortly before removal, very concentrated on the bondings accumulate sharp and slightly knotted spots caused by the loose hair roots, which also can not escape the bonding.
Tapes, on the other hand, are already quite soft on the scalp when inserted and feel very good. Tapes are especially pleasant if you like to wear your hair open. Tapes are much gentler on your own hair, because the weight of the strand is distributed among several of your own hair and it is not just hanging on one fine strand of hair. I myself notice that I lose less of my own hair with tapes than I do with bonds.
The hair picture just looks nicer overall with tapes. The wide strands fall much more evenly than the thin bonding strands. At the moment, I prefer to wear two different colors in my hair, which is also much nicer with tapes, because here the light strand can be glued under the dark strand on a wide area.
Some of you have also asked me where the strands are attached to the head or hair. The strands are not attached directly to the crown of the head, but only from about mid forehead height, behind the ear and then in rows lower and lower to the back of the head. The strands themselves are attached with it under the top hair and in each case directly as close as possible to the hairline. For me, the tapes last about 3-4 months until I would have them renewed and it starts to bother me a bit because it’s just harder to hide them when they grow out.
Shampoo and Conditioner for Tape Extensions
You also often ask me what hair care products I’m currently using since my hair looks so healthy and shiny. On the one hand, you notice here the good tape extensions that Melina Best uses, and in the meantime also as its own label. In addition, with every color refresh at Melina you also get an Olaplex treatment, which helps the hair structure.
While my roots get fresh color, my hair lengths get a glossing, so that the structure of the hair looks smooth and shiny again and yet is not weighed down by color. Overall, this creates an even and well-groomed look in the hair.
When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, I currently use the new products that Melina Best hairdresser offers as its own label. It is important for the hair and tape extensions that the care is silicone-free and paraben-free. My hair gets a fine pearly shine, moisture and care from argan oil and panthenol. To protect the hair from heat during hair styling, I currently prefer to use hair oil.
Why do I need hair extensions or hair thickening?
While my female followers are more concerned about details and about the price, which varies depending on the amount of hair needed, my male followers wonder more about the purpose of hair extensions and tape extensions.
Are women in this day and age just too lazy or impatient to wait for long hair and just let their hair grow naturally? Anyone who watches my Instagram Stories will have seen how my hair looks without tape extensions. They are long, but also very thin and fine.
Since I’ve been wearing tape extensions, my hair feels like it’s growing much faster. In general, you can assume that hair grows about 12-15cm a year. With me, it’s not my hair length that bothers me, but the overall appearance, which just looks a bit “weak”. My hair is naturally slightly frizzy, so I always have to style it. If I now straighten my own hair, the overall look just looks extremely fine or thin.
If I didn’t wear hair extensions, or rather even hair thickening with tape extensions, I would probably prefer slightly shorter hair, like a longbob, so that the hair still looks healthy and full towards the end.
It’s not the length that matters, it’s the overall positive image and look. Long hair is part of who I am personally. I’ve always had long hair as a child and have only had it cut completely short once in my life – but that was while I was still in school.
I am absolutely happy that in this day and age there is the possibility of hair extension and thickening through tape extensions and enjoy the looks I can wear with it. As a woman with fine hair, having hair thickening or even hair extensions through tape extensions has given me an overall greater sense of well-being and an alternative to shorter hair.
