Best red lipsticks and best matte red lips. My trademark as a blogger are red lips, long fingernails and the red sole of my Louboutin high heels. Surely hardly surprising that I now own a few different red lipsticks, use and can therefore also compare. Currently, red matte red lipsticks are on trend and I compare my best blue-tinted red lipsticks for red lips for my beauty blog readers.
For years there has been a MAC classic for me that I use all the time. However, there are now some cosmetic companies and brands that offer great alternatives. Due to the large selection on the beauty market, it is hard to find the best lipstick for matte red lips at the moment. Therefore, I like to give you my assessment of the various red lipsticks of different brands.
All my red lipsticks have a slight blue tint, as I don’t like to see orange undertones to my skin color. It doesn’t seem coherent as I’m more of a pale skin type with freckles, which I do like to cover up though…. but today is first about my most favorite red lipsticks.
Best matte red lipsticks for red lips
(from left to right)
Russian Red – Matte (A16) by MAC Cosmetics
My “all time favorite” red lipsticks from MAC. I like the rich, bright red and the long lasting on the lips. I wear the Russian Red lipstick sometimes without lipliner, because the application is very accurate and the red lipstick color does not run.
The smell reminds me of vanilla and Play-Doh, the packaging is typical MAC – black, simple and practical. If I want to change the matte look spontaneously, I choose the matching lip gloss in the color Russian Red to it. I have already presented the lipstick more often in my top 5 lipstick rankings.
La Fascinante – Rouge Allure Velvet (38) by Chanel Beauty
From the series of popular Chanel lipsticks, there is also a matte version, the Velvet Edition. The shade La Fascinante is a bit darker and bluer than the Russian Red, also the durability is not as long at Chanel. On the lips, the red lipstick feels more natural. However, the application is not so precise possible, so that you need a lipliner here to get a nice finish.
The smell is berry and sweet, the packaging is made of the well-known, simple, black, glossy lacquer with a golden press-open closure, which is supposed to stand for a sensual elegance. I like the Chanel lettering in the lipstick as a small detail. A visual highlight in my red lipstick collection.
Rouge Louboutin Silky Satin (001) by Christian Louboutin Beauty
My classiest of the red lipsticks from my favorite shoe brand. In the shade of the famous red sole, this lipstick is an absolute highlight for me – not too garish, but a subtle red. Even though the color is not directly labeled as matte, the Rouge Louboutin color looks just faintly glossy to me and belongs to the ranks of my matte red lipsticks.
The smell is subtle and slightly perfumed with citrus notes. The packaging is extremely eye-catching and classy, as you can also wear the lipstick as a necklace with an enclosed satin ribbon around your neck. The durability is good, as with a classic lipstick.
Paris Cherry – Color Riche Matte (349) by L’Oréal Paris
Brand new, the matte lipstick from L’Oréal Paris has convinced me. Even if I would not have chosen the color name Paris Cherry from the name and printed shade, I really like the color on the lips.
The smell is sweet and creamy, the packaging looks simple and elegant from black pattern print in leather look and gold details. The durability is normal and the lips feel very well-groomed. You hardly notice the lipstick on your lips as it feels very natural.
Vintage Chic – Soft Sensation Lipcolor Butter Matte (028) by Astor
The currently typical and modern “crayons” as red lipsticks. From Astor I like to use the color Vintage Chic, because it feels very good on the lips and paints quite sharp. The smell is extremely sweet vanilla, the packaging makes the lipstick stand out as an outsider next to my other lipsticks. Rather flashy than elegant. Colorwise in each case adapted to the included color, as with the gesamtem Astor Butter collection recognizable.
Diva – Matte (A19) by MAC Cosmetics
The darker version of my Russian Red is Diva. The properties are absolutely comparable. Only the shade is much darker and yet for me it still belongs to my red lipsticks. A lipstick that makes my teeth look extremely white.
Apocalypse red – Lip Paint Matte Liquid Lipstick (205) from L’Oréal Paris
Moving on to my liquid matte red lipsticks. The softest version is offered by the Apocalyse red from L’Oréal Paris. The tube looks almost a little artistic and flashy. The staying power is normal, the smell like a sweet cherry jam. I find the lipstick very pleasant on the lips once the smell has dissipated a bit.
Crimson – VICE Waterproof Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick by Urban Decay
By chance, I came across Urban Decay’s lipstick from the VICE collection. This lipstick is a waterproof lipstick that is very precise when applied and dries solid only after a short waiting time. After that, the lipstick lasts long and is very opaque.
The smell is a little chemical, but is completely neutral after drying. The packaging is rose-silver with light gold and transparent. The lips dry out a little when using it, but not as extreme as my next lipstick.
Feels so grand – Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour (A66) by MAC Cosmetics.
My favorite of solid red lipsticks is the Feels so grand by MAC. I like to wear it when I’m filming YouTube videos because it holds up really well and is highly visible. Extremely opaque and color-intensive, the red lipstick remains on the lips after the short drying time. The entire makeup looks just “perfect” when I wear this lipstick.
The smell is also slightly chemical with a hint of vanilla. The packaging looks like a classic MAC lipstick from the tip, but on a clear bottle. The application is very precise and does not run. The lips need extra care in the evening, however, because the lipstick dries out the lips.
Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer by Smashbox.
If your color that you imagine was also not in this selection, then I can still recommend this product. The Insta-Matte is simply applied as a finishing touch over a regular lipstick. The cream conjures a matte lipstick from a glossy lipstick and gives the lipstick overall more durability.
Personally, I am a little bothered by the fact that the cream runs quite easily into the lip wrinkles in the long run. The smell is a little chemical and bitter. It’s a great idea to turn a glossy lipstick into a matte lipstick with this trick.
Most popular matte and red lipsticks – my recommendation and comparison
I hope my little overview of my current best picks for red lipsticks with my favorite colors has helped you a bit in your decision for the best matte lipstick. I’m currently switching through all of the above lipsticks and see a different benefit in each lipstick. Therefore, I also no longer have a very clear favorite. My favorite at the time, the Russian Red I currently use only rarely.
I am curious which new red lipsticks will convince me in the long run. Do you have any color tips or brands I should definitely check out? The selection of red and matte lipsticks is currently getting bigger and bigger….
