When I first saw the BaByliss Pro MiraCurl, I was skeptical. A hair styler that winds the hair by itself and makes curls? Inwardly, I already saw myself running to a hair salon to get the curling machine out of my hair again. Of course, I didn’t want to experience that, but curiosity won out and I just had to try out the device from BaByliss. Does it really make curls so easily and does it perhaps go much faster than usual?

When the curling iron arrived in its pretty packaging, I first had to study the package instructions – intuitively, the device is not to understand. There are four sliders and a water tank – I had to internalize the principle first. Since the curling machine is entrusted to children as young as 8 years, it could not be too difficult to handle it after all.

The various settings of the BaByliss Pro MiraCurl SteamTech for perfect curls:

• Steam on / off – similar to a steam iron, you can additionally strengthen the curls with steam for an intense and shiny styling. The curls should thus last extra long.
• 3 Time setting 8 / 10 / 12 seconds – depending on the duration, the curls also become more intense. While the device is shaping the curl, it beeps every few seconds.
• 3 Temperature settings 190°C / 210°C / 230°C – depending on the hair type for the best success. Thin hair usually gets great results with less heat, while thicker hair often needs more heat for intense styling.
• Curl direction control Right / Left / Auto – this determines how the curl is turned. When set to Auto, it always alternates left and right to get a wilder styling.

I decided to use the curling machine BaByliss Pro MiraCurl with steam function directly. For my thin hair, the smallest heat level and the smallest second level was enough for me at first. For the rotation direction, I chose the “Right” setting on the right side of my head and “Left” on the left side of my head.

The water tank is removable and should be filled with distilled water for longevity. More importantly, though, is the direction in which the curling iron needs to be held. I think I made sure I was holding it the right way for each curl. If you take the wrong side here, the device winds the short piece up to the hairline – and I didn’t want to try that 🙂

It is important that you take thin strands – otherwise the device immediately resists with a strong beeping. It’s best to part the top hairs for later, and clip them up to get the neatest strands possible. However, it is even better if you get help from a second person. In the long run, I feel the device with felt 1 kg as quite heavy – at least for an application time of about 20 minutes.

Conclusion on the BaByliss Pro MiraCurl SteamTech

My conclusion on the BaByliss Pro MiraCurl curling machine is mixed. You look at each curl fascinated in the mirror, as the curl is pulled in by the device. At the same time, you also always have some respect for this machine and check again and again whether the opening is the right one, because both sides look similar in the mirror. The steam function hisses and steams like an iron right at your ear, which is a bit unusual and you inwardly twitch away a bit, which of course does not work when the strand is clamped 🙂

However, the result when you open the BaByliss Pro MiraCurl SteamTech again and the curl falls out is really pretty. The curls are intense and shiny, thanks to the ceramic technology. The curls fall into each other pretty as a whole. Compared to my other curling irons, however, the procedure takes much longer, as much thinner strands have to be taken. For travel, the styler also takes up more space and weight than a classic curling iron.

For special evenings, I’ll be happy to use the BaByliss Pro MiraCurl curling machine, but for quick use, I’ll probably fall back more on my classic curling irons. You can find my other beauty and hair styling helpers in my blog section Beauty & Make-up.
