The Snap Map shows where your friends are — which is fun, but not always what you want. Here’s how to hide your location with Ghost Mode and stay in control of who can see you.
Quick answer
Turn on Ghost Mode to hide your location on the Snap Map. Open the Map, tap the ⚙️ settings icon in the top-right, and switch Ghost Mode on. Your Bitmoji disappears from everyone else’s map — you can still see friends who share their location.
How to turn on Ghost Mode
- From the camera, pinch the screen or tap the location pin to open the Snap Map.
- Tap the ⚙️ gear/settings icon in the top-right corner.
- Toggle Ghost Mode on. You can choose how long it stays on — for example 3 hours, 24 hours, or until you turn it off.
Share with only certain friends
You don’t have to hide from everyone. In the same Map settings under “Who Can See My Location” you can pick:
- My Friends — everyone you’re friends with.
- My Friends, Except… — hide from specific people.
- Only These Friends… — share with a hand-picked few.
Good to know
Even in Ghost Mode, Snapchat still receives your location — it just isn’t shown to other users. Your location also stops updating when the app is closed, and if you post to Our Story or a public event, that Snap can still appear on the map with a location tag.
